Text Box: Text Box: These pictures are of the FELLA SM320 9 ft.10 in. 6-Disc Mower after cutting approximately 1300 acres for many different farmers in Texas, Louisiana, and Florida.
Text Box: This FELLA Disc Mower went on to cut approximately 2,000 acres by May 14, 2001 and approximately 3,000 acres by August 28, 2001 by more, different farmers.
Text Box: 1. Remove drain plug from end of cutter bar. (Oil can be drained from either end of bar.)

OBSERVATIONS:

1. Only minimal wear on the hardened-steel skids, cutting discs and drums.

2. Belts are in excellent condition and no slack found in the 5 hinge joints that are equipped with bronze bushings and grease zerks.

3. Absolutely no slack found in the cutting disc spindle bearings. Only blades and blade bolts have been replaced—no other parts.

Text Box: 3. If not removing all drive units, insert wooden wedges under the remaining disc to maintain disc timing. This will save time aligning shaft during reassembly.
Text Box: 4. Screw 10 mm bolt into end of hex shaft. This is used to pull shaft from bar.

Text Box: 5. Remove shaft from end of cutter bar. Only remove as far as necessary to remove or replace drive unit in question. If outside units are in question, shaft can be removed from the other end of bar. Hex shaft is under-cut between first disc and input drive. This creates a shear point in the shaft to eliminate twisting.

Text Box: 7. Remove foam blocks from around drive unit. These blocks help reduce noise levels and eliminate dirt buildup around drive units. A very quiet mower!!
Text Box: 8. Remove top plate from drive unit.
Text Box: 9. Unscrew the 4 bolts securing the replaceable drive unit to cutter bar.
Text Box: 10. Remove drive unit from bar. When replacing more than one unit, make
certain left/right rotation is correct during reassembly.
Text Box: 12. One person using air tools can completely rebuild this cutter bar in approximately 4 hours using replaceable units. To replace one drive unit should require approximately one hour.

Text Box: 11. This unit—with approximately 1300 acres and the original oil—shows no signs of wear. Using factory-built replacement units eliminates the need for setting gears and damaging seals or bearings during assembly. This will save time and repair costs, and most owner/operators will be capable of doing their own repairs with very little downtime.
Text Box: 13. Placing the shaft to the rear of the cutter bar allows for a wedge shape, low profile mower bed design resulting in clean, close mowing in the toughest conditions. The cutter bar housing is extruded steel and very strong.
Text Box: 14. With parking stand in down position, the hitch is locked parallel to ground by a mechanical locking device making hooking and unhooking extremely easy. Belt drive pulleys are machined from steel.

The following steps show the ease of repair and simplicity of the

FELLA Shaft Drive Disc Mower:

2. Right angle gearbox and cutter bar are joined together creating a common reservoir. This reservoir is fully filled with oil using a unique breather system.

This will allow running at extreme angles for long periods of time. The SM320 holds nearly 3 gallons of GL5-90 oil. Using this large quantity of oil, it can remain in the machine for its entire life.

The skids are made of hardened steel and on inspection after 3,000 acres showed only minimal wear.
