Comparison of grass planted by Plant-O-Vator using different spacings

The center of this picture shows a yellow area. The spacing between those rows was 22 inches. The rest of this picture shows a total green area which was planted on 12-inch rows with deep-placed fertilizer.

This illustrates the horizontal migration of the fertilizer and roots until they met at least 9 inches away from the deep fertilizer placement. The results are total renovation, fertilizing and watering of the existing sod plants while planting and fertilizing an interseeded annual crop.

This creates a drought-resistant condition.

Fertilizing and Liming: Granular or liquid fertilizer and pelletized lime are deep placed below new, interseeded plants in the midst of existing roots.

Water Conservation: Existing sod is renovated, cultivated, and fractured. Rain, irrigation water and fertilizer nutrients are stored in the reservoir created in the sod. “Corrugation” contour movement of gravity irrigation water is also possible on slopes.

Additional Benefits: Production from existing sod plants is increased while growing new, interseeded crops. Roots grow deeper seeking fertilizer and moisture providing better survival of plants in drought conditions.

Environmental Support: Soil erosion, fertilizer pollution and chemical use are reduced/eliminated.

Exposed roots of Plant-O-Vator seed bed

Deep seed bed with fertilizer placed and mixed into lower third of 5½-inch deep seed bed causes roots to grow deep rapidly and become more drought resistant. Allows early grazing without the plant being pulled up by the animals.

Text Box: When planting, nearly all existing moisture in the soil is retained since all grinding action is done under the surface without the soil ever surfacing and being aired out.

Any rain or irrigation water is brought into the reservoir created under the surface by the fracturing process through the furrow openings.

Much less water is required since it soaks in the soil rather than running off.

The Plant-O-Vator® system mixes the fertilizer in the soil directly below the seed and covers the mixture with a layer of soil, separating the seed from the fertilizer.

RESULT: Fertilizer does not destroy the seeds.

The illustration below shows four “mini” seed beds, the location of fertilizer, the location of the seed, the finely ground seed bed and the fractured soil between the rows.

The Plant-O-Vator® furrows allow remarkable growth of existing plants along with fast growth of new plants.

Interseeding: Grasses, legumes, grains are planted in perfect (approximate 5½-inch-deep by 3-inch-wide) seed bed created in existing sod, spaced 12 inches apart. Ground cover between rows is undisturbed.
